Nicola Cursley is a British studio jeweler and artist relocated to Safety Harbor. Working mainly in sterling silver she creates one-off and small batch jewelry collections that bridge the gap between fine jewelry and fashion jewelry. She uses traditional jewelry-making and silversmithing techniques to carve, cast, solder, and stone-set contemporary wearable works of art.
A member of the Florida Society of Goldsmiths (FSG), she designs and makes under the name Nicola Cursley Studio, formally known as Designed by Bond in the UK. Nicola started her jewelry design business in 2011 and within two years had opened a jewelry, art, and craft gallery on the southern coast of England. While representing over 30 artists at any given time, her own practice was put on the back shelf until her move to Florida, when she launched Nicola Cursley Studio two weeks before ‘lock-down’!
Inspired by living in, and traveling through, some of the most colorful and exotic places in the world, Nicola is especially influenced by her coastal living: the birds, the sea-life, paddling adventures, and glorious sunsets. With an Honors degree in Fine Art, her creativity extends to painting, illustration, and photography.
Nicola has always been mindful of waste, recycling, and fair trade practices and extends that passion to the way she works, the space she is in, and the materials she uses, trying as much as she can - in any small way - to be more ecologically minded. Each piece is made from thoughtfully sourced materials and gems, using recycled silver where possible.
