PARACHUTE GALLERY CORE ARTIST

Emma Olivia Chandler · Tampa, FL

Emma Olivia Chandler is a metalsmith, enamellist, and educator. Born and raised in the Tampa Bay area, her earliest encounter with a saw and torch were at Blake High School where she works with the next generation of metalsmiths and art historians. She holds an MA in Metals and Jewelry from Ball State University and an MFA in Metal from SUNY New Paltz.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Emma’s artwork explores a love of nature, history, and folklore - illuminating the intersections of the three along the way. She fabricates contemporary heirlooms – translating ephemeral objects such as clouds, maple pods, and cicadas into wearable adornments made of sterling silver, copper, vitreous enamel, and bronze. Carapaces of insects, brittle bird bones, and shards of pottery are noticed, retrieved, and pored over as fodder for the next work.
